DIGITIZE YOUR PRINTS!

BY POPULAR REQUEST

It's not just cleaning your closet, it's rediscovering and sharing your life

Sure, maybe you’ve flipped through them once or twice over the years, and there’s some you’d like to see more often, but how do you even find the one you want? It’s such a chore. I’m here to help.

I’ve been digitizing and restoring old photographs since the 90’s. Having printed in both black and white and color darkrooms, and processed bulk mechanical prints for a 1hr photo lab, I have an excellent idea of how your image was originally processed and developed; with 20+ years of digital image processing and manipulation your images are going to look better when I’m done.

*estimated time based on current hours/availability and may change without published notice; required production time included in estimate and/or provided upon transfer of images

** assorted sizes $0.15 per image, extended retouch $0.20 per image (it’s easiest if you know which images you’d like an extra minute or two on & split them into their own package, which can either be then left apart or combined with the rest of your images. Price breaks based on overall job quantity, not package. No charge for package splits (which will become folders upon download / exporting to flash drive). Extended retouch most necessary on prints over 30 years old, or on more heavily textured papers.

Choose your filenaming order by sequencing your images, or economize for price.

Pricing economy, or rather workflow efficiency, comes from grouping common sizes. I’ll shoot your images in the order you provide them to me, and number  the packs as I go, or use the names you provide me, for your ease of verification & comparison afterward. Add’l fee applies if sizes are assorted throughout. Group common sizes from large to small.

Choose your own retouch level

Listed prices cover: capture, crop, dust retouch to 1x size, and basic exposure adjustments which were unavailable in traditional prints.

Extended dust retouch (additional fee) includes locking exposure, fine level dust retouch and a custom, multi-stage fine sharpening technique to help your image be the best it can be. If I can add or subtract a quick pixel or two to dramatically improve the image I will. Extended retouch is not a restoration.

Flag images for extended retouching, and I’ll have them right as rain the first time you see them, or have me do the basic run through first and see what you think.

I can process album pages

There may well be exceptions to this, but in limited trials I’ve had more success than expected. Leave your images on the page and leave the protective sheet in place, the less disruption the better. Standard rate applies per image, all images captured unless flagged, assorted size charge applies, extended retouch recommended.

I’m happy to schedule a meeting where you can see examples, and we can review your specific albums’ needs. Many older 1970’s-1980’s albums were especially aggressive in their construction, and will in many cases destroy the image if you attempt to remove them.

I can process scrapbooks

I shoot through the protective pages, and do an overall retouch of photo elements and print hickies, and end with a two stage fine detail sharpening process so your pages look better than new. Price does not include digital clean up or absolute color consistency between pages of paper elements. Pages  Pages are processed as singular images.

I’m happy to show you some digital examples in person.

Each Sheet = 2 Pages (if displays as double sided)

Limitations may apply.

The intention of this service is to allow you access to all of your personal/family/friends snapshots. Greywood Photography cannot provide digitization services of copyrighted images. We reserve the right to refuse any photograph on these grounds without a copyright release provided at time of order.

Restoration services also available

An “extended retouch” is limited in scope. At less than a quarter, it really just covers the essentials.

If you have damaged prints you want restored to their full glory, I’m happy to offer you an estimated price, and level of expectation. Restorations are by quote only. I can distribute repairs at any variety of different levels of detail depending on your wishes or intended suse. I’m happy to offer a quote, and if you like I can include printing & framing or wall art if you want  everything taken care of start to finish.

Resolution

I shoot with a full frame 35mm format SLR. Your final pixel dimensions will vary based on the specific size and proportions of the prints you provide, and how fully or not it’s able to fill my frame, but before cropping (and I always leave edges showing on 4 sides to verify positioning in process) it’s a little over 5500×3500 pixels, or just over 21MP.

Digital files are provided as is and without guarantee. Although my studio computer display is calibrated with frequency, I still recommend allowing the lab of your choice to make adjustments when you go to print. All labs and processes and even paper profiles are different. For items ordered through Greywood Photography I inspect every product before you see it to ensure it passes my quality standards.  Greywood Photography is not responsible for outside production outcomes in any way. All files will be provided as SRGB .jpg. whether by online download or on physical memory device. Online high res files are not compressed, web size files are optimized to (hopefully) avoid compression filters when shared online.
